Training – Before your staff can practise good forensics they must be taught how and why. Inspectors, veterinarians, barristers, police, we can design a training program specific to your needs or do general veterinary forensic training with your staff. Topics might include; crime scene investigations (CSI), photography, identification and collection of evidence, using entomology, dealing with hoarders, the “link” between domestic violence and animal abuse, animal intake exams, forensic report writing, preparing exhibits, court testimony. Small and large group sessions, practical hands-on training as well as, evaluation of your staff, processes, and equipment are all available.
Consultancy – Large scale, complex or tricky cases sometimes require additional help or advice. Peggy has both forensic qualifications and animal crime scene experience as well as a great working knowledge of the Animal Welfare Act 1999 and the Search and Seizure Act 2012 to assist you in these situations. From advice on pre-operational planning to case review and consultation on evidence, entomology and pathology, advice can be provided on part or all of your case. All consultation includes a complete report of findings, interpretations and professional expert opinion.
Operational Planning – Getting your team ready for a large scale operation is complex and time-consuming, however, getting it right is vitally important. Search warrant execution gives you only one chance at gathering high-quality evidence, and having the right staff, equipment and plan are essential to providing the best service to the animals, staying safe and establishing an excellent case. Everything from consultation on your plan or assistance in creating a plan as well as on-site attendance to assist in evidence collection is available.
Presentations – The topic of Veterinary Forensics is interesting as much as it is important. Peggy is an experienced presenter who would be happy to speak at your conference, or facilitate a workshop with your team. Presenting information, case reviews or research can all be tailored to your needs.
Expert Witness – Having an expert witness is invaluable in prosecution cases. Peggy has experience in court and the qualifications to be certified as an expert. Areas that can be covered are husbandry conditions for animals, wound evaluation, skeletal remains assessment, hoarding, post-mortem interval, entomology of the scene, and the “link” between domestic violence and animal abuse to name a few. Having an expert to explain the evidence your team has collected can help the court see its significance and understand its meaning.
